Stowly is committed to protecting your privacy and your child's privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in our iOS application.
Our Core Privacy Promise: All AI processing happens entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your story prompts, generated content, or personal information on external servers.
Information We Do NOT Collect
Stowly is designed with privacy as a fundamental principle. We do NOT:
- Collect or transmit story prompts you enter
- Upload generated stories to any server
- Track what stories you create or read
- Collect personal information about you or your child
- Use analytics or tracking services
- Share data with third parties
- Use advertising or ad tracking
- Require account creation or login
- Access your contacts, location, or other personal data
How Stowly Works
1. On-Device AI Processing
All story generation uses Apple's FoundationModels framework, which:
- Runs entirely on your iPhone
- Processes all content locally on your device
- Does not send prompts or stories to external servers
- Requires Apple Intelligence to be enabled on your device
2. On-Device Image Generation
Poster image generation uses Apple's Image Playground, which:
- Creates images entirely on your device
- Does not upload images to external servers
- Processes all image generation locally
3. Text-to-Speech
Text-to-speech narration uses Apple's AVSpeechSynthesizer, which:
- Runs entirely on your device
- Does not record or transmit audio
- Uses locally available system voices
Data Storage
Local Storage
Stowly stores the following data only on your device using SwiftData:
- Generated Stories: Story text, titles, and metadata
- Story Settings: Your preferences for age ranges, story length, and voice selection
- Generated Images: Poster images created for your stories
- Usage Metadata: Read counts, favorites, and timestamps (stored locally only)
This data is stored in your device's local database and is never transmitted to external servers.
iCloud Synchronization (Optional)
If you enable iCloud synchronization:
- Your stories are synced to your personal iCloud account
- Data is encrypted and stored in your private iCloud storage
- Only you can access this data through your Apple ID
- We do not have access to your iCloud data
- You can disable iCloud sync at any time in device Settings
- Standard Apple iCloud privacy policies apply
iCloud sync is completely optional and controlled by you.
Children's Privacy
Stowly is designed for children ages 3-12 and complies with children's privacy requirements:
- No Data Collection: We do not collect personal information from children
- Parental Control: The app is designed to be used under parental supervision
- No Tracking: We do not track children's usage or behavior
- No Advertising: The app contains no advertisements or in-app purchases
- No External Communication: The app does not communicate with external servers
- No Social Features: There are no chat, sharing, or social networking features
Parents should review generated stories before sharing with children to ensure appropriateness.
Permissions Required
Photos (Optional)
- Purpose: To select photos for character inclusion in image generation
- Usage: Only when you explicitly choose to add a character photo
- Storage: Photos are processed on-device only and not stored by the app
- Control: You can deny this permission; basic features will still work
Siri & Apple Intelligence (Required for AI features)
- Purpose: To enable on-device AI story and image generation
- Usage: Required for core app functionality
- Privacy: All processing is on-device
- Control: Managed through iOS Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri
